Associations

Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA):
“The CVMA is the national body representing and serving the interests of the veterinary profession in Canada.  The association is committed to excellence within the profession and to the well-being of animals.  It shall promote public awareness of the contribution of animals and veterinarians to society.”  This mission statement was adopted in August 1987

Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA):
The OVMA is a professional association representing veterinarians working in private practice, government, academia, industry and the public service.  Founded in 1980, OVMA represents over 2,100 veterinarians and veterinary students.

College of Veterinarians of Ontario (CVO):
The CVO regulates the practice of veterinary medicine in Ontario to protect the public interest.  The CVO is not a school or university and is financed in full by the license fees of veterinarians in Ontario.  The CMO licenses veterinarians, inspects and accredits veterinary facilities and investigates complaints and concerns with veterinarians who are guilty of professional misconduct.

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA):
The AVMA is a not-for-profit organization established in 1863.  It acts as a collective voice for its members and for the profession.  The AVMA represents over 75,000 veterinarians in private & corporate practice, government, industry, academia and uniformed services.  This is an interesting website that provides a window into veterinary practice in the United States.
